ASPEN HERITAGE DAY TOURNAMENT 2016

ASPEN HERITAGE DAY TOURNAMENT 2016

The annual Aspen Heritage day football tournament aims to bring local clubs to join Aspen Rangers (home based team) in competing for the Aspen Heritage Cup. The field hosted two age groups in a 6 aside game competition – U13 and U17. The tournament consisted of the following teams U13 – Alberview Primary, Sporting, Black Aces and Aspen Rangers. U17 teams – 2 Plane, Aspen Rangers, Sporting and Glenvista Social. The Games were 12 minutes long which meant there was no time for mistakes and the aim was to get as many goals as possible. This didn’t prove to be very easy as many of the team’s only managed draws which left us the organizers to work out a goal difference for the semi-finals. The finals consisted of U13 Black Aces A vs Black Aces B. In the U17 category Aspen’s Team qualified much to the crowds delight and they faced a well-known indoor team from Edenvale ‘2 Plane’. The finals were exciting and kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. U13’s split the supporters into two. It was club vs club and Black Aces A were just too good for their fellow club members Black Aces B. In the U17 draw the local residents threw their support behind our local boys Aspen Rangers , it was a tight game and with only seconds to go ‘2 plane’ came from a 1-1 score line, to sink the hopes of Aspen Rangers winning the title, to score their second goal. Well done to all the teams that participated and to all the supporters who came out to get behind them. A big thank you to Tony Dias (Black Aces coach), Darren Burke (Aspen Rangers coach) and Gerry Burke for assisting in the tournament. Special mention must be made of our sponsors Lencar Exclusive Properties who sponsored the Tournament and without whom the day would not have been possible. The player of the tournament was Matthew Munro a very talented player from Alberview Primary. After the tournament the day continued with residents and supporters joining us for a heritage braai day where they were entertained by the local favorite band Simply# Four.
